The project site is located at Pulau Tekong, the largest of Singapore outlying island just off Singapore’s northeastern coast. This project is part of the land reclamation contract awarded to Toa-Jan De Nul Joint Venture.
In most part of the project, dredging and filling method was adopted to reclaim the land prior to the construction of sand key. However, in the Transition Zone between Area A and C, this method may pose stability concern to the existing sand key. Hence, Offshore Vibro Replacement with stone columns was carried out to improve the strength and deformation characteristics of the soft clay prior to the sand filling. This is to ensure the stability of sand key during sand filling and to meet the settlement criteria of the rock revetment structure on the sand key.
About 43,000 linear meters of stone columns was installed with the latest Alpha-S and Keller Gravel Jet system, the latest offshore stone column technology developed by Keller. The installation depth varied from 15 to 25m below sea level.
